Retirement poems and verses are more difficult to find than I had envisioned. I have listed several on this page for your use. The use of free quotes and poems in any speech can add depth and value. Give credit to the poem writer if you use it.
The following poem was written by Angela Rose. It could be suitable for your retiree.
Now that you are a retiree,
think of all the discounts you’ll see.
You can go to the movies for less than the rest.
With early bird specials, you’re sure to be blessed.
Zoo entrance is yours at a reduced price.
Museums also discounted, retirees to entice.
As a senior citizen, you’ll be treated like royalty.
Because of your free time, they all want your loyalty.
Weekly paychecks may be a thing of the past.
But if you are frugal, your savings should last.
All of the discounts will surly assist.
Just make sure you stay off those credit card mailing lists.
When I can look Life in the eyes,
Grown calm and very coldly wise,
Life will have given me the Truth,
And taken in exchange - my youth.
I Used to Teach —
Now I Have No Class.
May you always have
work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
Irish Retirement Blessing
road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your field
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
( A celtic blessing )
As you go to pastures
Remember those who worked with you
of us office bound, longing for sun
And we'll think of you out there having great fun
you are wise you will no doubt wonder
How will they get by without a blunder
we'll learn and laugh and then we'll say
How you would never have done it that way
even at times if we've driven you mad
We thank you most sincerely for the great times we've had
aspirations you now hold in your heart
We wish you the best retirement right from the start
in touch, let us know how you are
Send us a postcard from near and afar
Our boss, our good friend,
Best wishes, we'd like to extend.
Time to retire, has finally arrived,
Chronic complaining, you have survived.
Working with you was simply a pleasure,
Our growing friendship, we'll always treasure.
So many things you did that were great,
You were honest; your talk was real straight.
Each day, you dealt with the pressure,
Learn to relax, your days shall be fresher.
Now it's time to simply enjoy,
No more worries, who to employ.
"Enjoy Your Retirement"
A milestone has come and now you can leave,
(No more working from nine until five),
To live out your dreams and do as you please.
Not needing this job to survive.
You can sleep until noon: stay up until dawn,
No need to 'be here' or 'be there',
Not needing this job to survive.
Go out on the town and really get down,
Or relax in your old underwear.
Whatever you do, it's all up to you,
the time is now yours; go enjoy it.
Take time for yourself and kick up your heels,
The world's at your feet; go explore it.
This is not a "goodbye", it's a "see you next time",
And I wish you God's blessings each day,
May you always be happy and never regret.
this day as you go on your way.

Speakers use poems in every type of speech. I've had the honor of giving dozens of eulogies. Most often I include a poem. It's a change of pace as poems must be read slowly. It is read word-for-word and differs from the rest of the speech. Whenever possible include a retirement poem.
