There Is No Greater Attribute Than Integrity!

It is impossible to describe what is integrity without mentioning the word - honesty.  The definition of integrity invariably involves being truthful.  Quotes about integrity use words such as: moral, ethical and character.

Integrity involves a choice.  Many years ago, I wrote a book entitled Life Choices.  In it, I described how the future is determined by the many choices we make each day.  Being honest, honorable, and accountable for our actions, I stated, will shape our personal future.

If you have ever watched the television program "Cops", in which police officers encounter criminals.  The first words that come out of the criminal's mouth is  usually a lie.  The criminals are without integrity.  They are, also, without morals, ethics, values and principles.

The criminal's values may provide some instant gratification, but it is an incredible price to pay long term.  Because they lack integrity and values, they live in a world of deceit and low morals.  Either their parents failed to instill integrity in them or they allowed the people that they associated with to influence them.

"Have the courage to say no.  Have the courage to face the truth.  Do the right thing because it is right.  These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity."   W.  CLEMENT  STONE

What Is Integrity?   Other Examples!

Lack of integrity is cheating.  People try to cheat every day.  A few get away with it.  I remember a potential coach for the Notre Dame football team who cheated on his resume'.  His cheating was caught and he was terminated.

Other applicants cheat on their resume's and get away with it.  Ya gotta wonder what type of job they will do.  Will they cheat the customer and destroy the business?

Sales people and politicians overpromise and under deliver.  Some of them do okay, but others continue their dishonesty and get caught.  We have had presidents who lied and survived to be re-elected.  Our political system does not encourage integrity - too bad.

I advocate staying true to yourself and your word.  That will avoid awkward situations that never end well.  Integrity is a highly valued trait, particularly in our leaders.

"The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively."   BOB  MARLEY

"It is true that integrity alone won't make you a leader, but without integrity you will never be one."   ZIG  ZIGLAR

How Do We Develop Strong Moral Values?

Another way to ask the same question is: "What is Integrity?"  Is being honest enough or does it require more?  Another way to describe integrity is doing the right thing for the right reason.  Using bigger words: Integrity is the steadfast adherence to a strict ethical and moral code.

Integrity is who you are.  It describes your principles and moral values.  These are traits that no one can take from you.  Integrity is a big part of your reputation.

Steps to developing integrity:

  • Identify your core values.
  • Analyze every choice you make.  Ask yourself if it meets those core values.
  • Develop the characteristics of integrity - be humble, be confident and have a high self-esteem.
  • Keep promises and never betray a friend.
  • Honor your word as though it is written in black and white with no gray areas.

People with strong moral values can be trusted and get promotions in the workplace.

"In looking for people to hire, look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence and energy.  And if they don't have the first one, the other two will kill you."   WARREN  BUFFET

"The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity.  Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office."   DWIGHT  D.  EISENHOWER

"You are in integrity when the life you are living on the outside matches who you are on the inside."   ALAN  COHEN

"Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters."   ALBERT  EINSTEIN

"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be.  Be one."   MARCUS  AURELIUS

The Final Word on What Is Integrity?

Successes will come and go, but integrity (reputation) should be a forever thing.  If integrity is lost, which can happen very quickly, it will take years to regain it.

Newspaper headlines are dominated by people who make the wrong choices.  I sometimes wonder: "What were they thinking?"

People with integrity have simplified their lives.  It is an authentic and powerful way to live.  You honor your word.  You do what you say you will do.

"Have the courage to say no.  Have the courage to face the truth.  Do the right thing because it is right.  These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity."   W.  CLEMENT  STONE

HENRY  KRAVIS

"Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring and integrity, they think of you."   H.  JACKSON  BROWN,  JR.

"If you don't have integrity, you have nothing.  You can't buy it.  You can have all the money in the world, but if you are not a moral and ethical person, you really have nothing."   HENRY  KRAVIS

"I believe in integrity.  Dogs have it.  Humans are sometimes lacking it."   CESAR  MILLAN
