"With a Song in My Heart" (1952 musical)

Retirement songs are often as integral to a party as are the jokes and humor. They add depth to a slide show and set a mood for the party. Funny songs are even better.

I will list a few songs and include either an opening verse or a chorus. Choose the songs that fit your theme and your guest of honor. Perhaps the lyrics of the retirement song will provide a theme. Be creative!

My body's old but it ain't impaired
Well I don't need your rockin' chair

You get up every morning 'fore the sun comes up

Toss a lunchbox into a pickup truck

I gotta fight my way through the husslin' mob

Favorite Things

(from "The Sound of Music")

Rennies and nose drops and needles for knitting,

Zimmers and handrails and new dental fittings,

Bundles of magazines tied up in string,

These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs, cataracts, hearing aids, glasses,

Polident, Fixodent, false teeth in glasses,

Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,

These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak,

When the bones creak,

I simply remember my favorite things,

And then I don't feel so bad.
